- Description
- Since the election victory of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Hindu nationalist political party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in May 2014, university campuses across India have been in a constant state of political ferment. Both reactionary and progressive student groups on public university campuses have exercised the right to protest with a vengeance.4 These contestations underline the dual role of universities as mechanisms of elite reproduction and democratization (Kumar 2008).
